Brainlab said it won FDA 510(k) clearance for a mobile version of its TraumaCad surgical planning software for hip replacement procedures.

The product, TraumaCad Mobile, will be marketed by Brainlab's Voyant Health unit. The application is compatible with Mac and PC web browsers plus iOS mobile devices.

The application features automated hip-replacement planning and a digital template library. The product also supports Voyant's KingMark calibration marker and Brainlab's Quentry image-sharing service, the Munich-based company said.

"For over a decade, thousands of orthopedic surgeons have been using our TraumaCad technology to plan surgery. In the past several years, mobile devices have transformed how surgeons and healthcare professionals work by enhancing data access and productivity," orthopedics general manager Marc Mackey said in a press release. "With the mobile version of TraumaCad, digital templating can now be accessed from any web browser or iPad, enabling surgeons to be more productive while also providing access to data for better inventory management.
